Congratulations to Nobel Peace Prize winners Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov

We congratulate Rappler founder and editor Maria Ressa and Novaja Gazeta editor-in-chief Dmitry Muratov on being awarded the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize “for their efforts to safeguard freedom of expression, which is a precondition for democracy and lasting peace.”

At a time when press freedom is under pressure worldwide, posing a real threat to the free flow of information and democracy itself, Maria Ressa and Dmitry Muratov personify the value and importance of press freedom and the risks that journalists face to hold power to account.

In a video message to the prize winners, The Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation director, Matthew Caruana Galizia said the award “means a lot to us too. We think that your fight represents our fight”. Maria Ressa is one of the Daphne Caruana Galizia Foundation’s advisors.
